In Loving Memory of Matthew Morey

DELAWARE COUNTY, Ind. — A heartbreaking search along the Mississinewa River has come to an end with the recovery of the body of 18-year-old Matthew Morey, a recent Delta High School graduate whose life was tragically cut short.

Matthew had been missing since Wednesday evening after emergency personnel responded to the area following a report that four individuals had entered the river. Three people were safely located and recovered that night, but Matthew could not be found.

For several days, first responders, law enforcement officers, firefighters, search-and-rescue personnel, volunteers and specialized teams worked tirelessly along the Mississinewa River in an effort to bring Matthew home.

That search has now ended, leaving a family, school community and countless friends to face the devastating reality of his death.

Matthew was a young man with a future ahead of him. As a Delta High School graduate, he was preparing to begin another chapter of his life at Purdue University. He had dreams, plans and opportunities waiting for him.

Instead, his loved ones are now left with memories of a young life that ended far too soon.

The search for Matthew was extensive and challenging. Crews used boats, unmanned aerial vehicles, aircraft, K9 teams and personnel searching along the riverbanks. Specialized resources from across Delaware County and Indiana were brought together as responders worked through difficult conditions.

At times, rising water levels, swift currents and dangerous debris forced authorities to adjust or temporarily suspend portions of the operation. The safety of the rescuers remained a priority as teams continued searching whenever conditions allowed.

Throughout the operation, the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office said it had made a commitment to Matthew’s family that responders would not give up until they had answers.

That commitment remained at the center of the search.

Day after day, responders returned to the river, continuing their efforts despite difficult weather and dangerous water conditions. Their goal was simple but deeply important — to bring Matthew home to his family.

Now that he has been recovered, the community is left to mourn.

There are no words capable of taking away the pain of losing a child. For Matthew’s parents, family members and loved ones, this is a loss that will forever change their lives.

Matthew was more than a missing-person case or the subject of a search operation. He was someone’s son, someone’s friend, a classmate, a graduate and a young person who had touched the lives of those around him.

His friends and classmates will remember the moments they shared with him during his years at Delta High School. His family will hold onto the memories created throughout his life. And those who knew Matthew will carry his memory forward as they try to make sense of a tragedy that no family should have to endure.

His plans to attend Purdue University represented the beginning of an exciting new chapter. Like many young people his age, Matthew had his future in front of him.

His loved ones will now have to grieve the future he never got the opportunity to experience.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office expressed its deepest condolences to Matthew’s family, friends, classmates and everyone who knew and loved him. Officials also asked the community to continue keeping the family in their thoughts and prayers while respecting their privacy during this incredibly painful time.

The sheriff’s office also thanked the many agencies, responders, volunteers and individuals who contributed to the search.

Those who assisted included the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Muncie Police Department, Muncie Fire Department, Eaton Fire Department, Eaton EMS, Eaton Police Department, Delaware County EMS, Delaware County Emergency Management Agency, Albany Fire Department, Albany Police Department, Delaware County Highway Department, Yorktown Fire Department, Blackford County Sheriff’s Office, Kokomo Fire Department, First In Last Out Ministries K9, Delaware County Coroner’s Office and 3D Construction – Jacob Case.

The search became a true community-wide effort.

People from different agencies and organizations came together with one shared purpose: to bring Matthew home.

Their work required long hours, dedication, professionalism and courage, particularly as crews faced dangerous river conditions. The family and community are forever indebted to those who refused to stop searching.

The sheriff’s office also expressed gratitude to the community for the tremendous support shown to Matthew’s family and to the first responders throughout the operation.

During moments of unimaginable grief, communities can provide a powerful source of strength. The prayers, messages, assistance and support offered during the search demonstrated that Matthew’s life mattered to many people.

Now, as the search has ended, the focus turns toward remembering him.

Matthew’s life should not be defined only by the circumstances surrounding his death. He should be remembered for who he was — an 18-year-old graduate with dreams, relationships, memories and an entire future that was supposed to unfold before him.

His loved ones will continue to carry those memories.

There will be difficult days ahead. There will be moments when the loss feels overwhelming. But the love Matthew’s family and friends have for him will remain long after the search has ended.

A young life has been lost, but the memories he created will remain.

    Rest peacefully, Matthew Morey. 🕊️

May you be remembered not for the tragedy that took you from this world, but for the life you lived, the people you loved and the memories you left behind.

May your family find strength in one another during the days ahead. May your friends and classmates find comfort in the memories they shared with you. And may everyone whose life was touched by Matthew continue to honor his memory with love and compassion.

  • In Loving Memory of Daniel Gutierrez

In Loving Memory of Daniel Gutierrez

NORTHAMPTON COUNTY, Pa. — A young life was tragically cut short following a devastating single-vehicle crash in Allen Township, leaving family, friends and loved ones to mourn the loss of 20-year-old Daniel Gutierrez of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police – Bethlehem, the fatal crash occurred on Thursday, August 14, 2026, at approximately 10:00 p.m. on Weaversville Road at Drexel Drive in Allen Township, Northampton County.

Troopers were dispatched to the area shortly after 10:00 p.m. following reports of a motor vehicle crash involving injuries.

When emergency crews arrived, they found a severely damaged 2020 Honda Civic that had traveled off the roadway after the driver lost control.

Investigators said the vehicle had been traveling north on Weaversville Road when it crossed the middle double yellow line separating the two lanes of traffic. According to the preliminary crash report, the vehicle entered the opposite lane in an attempt to pass multiple vehicles.

The report states that the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it reached a slight uphill portion of the roadway. Because of the roadway’s elevation, the driver was unable to see approaching traffic ahead.

The vehicle subsequently lost control and crossed back into the northbound lane.

It then crossed the fog line and left the roadway.

The vehicle’s initial point of impact was a utility pole. The force of the collision caused the vehicle to continue traveling through a nearby cornfield, where it overturned multiple times.

After the violent sequence of impacts, the vehicle finally came to rest east of Weaversville Road.

The Honda sustained disabling damage in the crash.

Tragically, the driver, identified as Daniel Gutierrez, 20, of Bethlehem, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Daniel was not transported to a hospital because his injuries were fatal.

The crash has left those who knew him facing a heartbreaking loss. At just 20 years old, Daniel had so much life still ahead of him — dreams yet to be fulfilled, experiences yet to be lived and memories yet to be made.

His death serves as a painful reminder of how quickly an ordinary journey can become a tragedy.

For his family and friends, Daniel was far more than a name in a crash report. He was a son, a friend, a loved one and a young man whose life mattered deeply to the people around him.

The moments he shared with those closest to him will now become treasured memories. His smile, his voice, his personality and the memories created together will remain part of the lives of those who loved him.

According to the preliminary report, Daniel was wearing a lap and shoulder belt at the time of the crash.

The Pennsylvania State Police did not list a driver charge in the public information release provided. Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash, and the information released by police is considered preliminary and subject to change as additional details become available.

The crash required a significant emergency response.

Assisting Pennsylvania State Police at the scene were the Allen Township Fire Department, Northampton Regional EMS, Northampton Regional Fire Department, Northampton County Coroner’s Office, Ironton Towing, PennDOT and PPL.

Weaversville Road was closed for approximately four hours while emergency personnel worked at the scene, investigators documented evidence and the damaged vehicle was removed.

Trooper Matthew DeStefano of PSP Bethlehem is investigating the crash.

As the investigation continues, Daniel’s loved ones are left with the difficult task of saying goodbye to someone who was taken far too soon.

There are no words that can completely describe the pain of losing a young person with an entire future ahead of them. A sudden death leaves families with questions, memories and an emptiness that can be difficult to put into words.

Daniel’s life may have ended on a Pennsylvania roadway, but his memory will continue through the people who knew him and the moments they shared.

His family will remember him not for the circumstances of his final moments, but for the life he lived — the memories he created, the people he loved and the impact he had on those fortunate enough to know him.

In the days ahead, family and friends will come together to grieve, remember and support one another. They will share stories, look back on photographs and hold tightly to the memories that cannot be taken away.

While the road ahead may be difficult, may those who loved Daniel find comfort in knowing that his life had meaning and that he will never be forgotten.

    Rest peacefully, Daniel Gutierrez. 🕊️

You were taken from this world far too soon, but the memories you left behind will remain in the hearts of those who loved you.

May your family find strength and comfort during this heartbreaking time. May your loved ones be surrounded by support, compassion and peace as they mourn your passing.

Gone too soon. Forever remembered. Forever missed. Forever loved.

The Pennsylvania State Police investigation remains ongoing, and additional details may be released as investigators continue working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.

Those memories become part of the legacy a person leaves behind.

For Justin’s family and friends, the coming days and weeks will undoubtedly be difficult as they try to process his sudden passing and come to terms with a loss they never expected.

    Investigation Continues

The Beaumont Police Department’s Traffic Unit is investigating the fatal crash.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash, seen a vehicle leaving the area, or has information that could assist investigators is encouraged to contact Beaumont police.

Witness information can be especially important in hit-and-run investigations. Even seemingly small details — including the direction a vehicle traveled, its appearance, damage it may have sustained, or the approximate time it was seen — could potentially help investigators identify the vehicle involved.

    A Family Left to Grieve

For Justin’s loved ones, the investigation cannot undo what happened.

No arrest, investigation, or explanation can bring him back.

But finding answers can help provide accountability and may give his family some measure of closure as they continue to mourn.

Justin deserved to make it home that night.

Instead, his life came to a tragic end on a Beaumont roadway, leaving behind people who must now learn to live with his absence.

The pain of losing someone suddenly can be overwhelming. There is often no preparation for the phone call, the news, or the realization that someone who was here one moment is gone the next.

    Gone Too Soon

At 38, Justin had so much life ahead of him. There were undoubtedly more memories to make, more conversations to have, more places to see, and more moments that his family and friends expected to share with him.

In Loving Memory of Kenneth McWilliams

GRAYSVILLE — Kenneth McWilliams, 65, was tragically killed in a shooting Thursday afternoon in a Graysville neighborhood, leaving family, friends and members of the community mourning a life that ended far too soon.

According to Graysville police Capt. Erik Burpo, the deadly shooting occurred in a grassy area between two houses along 8th Avenue S.E. Police were called to the area after reports of a shooting, and officers discovered McWilliams suffering from a gunshot wound.

Authorities said McWilliams had been involved in a dispute with the suspect concerning the suspect’s grandmother. Investigators believe the disagreement escalated when the suspect went to the location where McWilliams was and confronted him.

During the confrontation, McWilliams was shot once. Despite the efforts that followed, he was pronounced dead shortly after 1:30 p.m.

The suspect was taken into custody, according to police. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including what led to the confrontation and the events immediately before the fatal gunshot.

For those who knew Kenneth McWilliams, this tragedy is about more than a police investigation. It is about the sudden loss of a human being whose life was meaningful to the people around him. At 65 years old, Kenneth had spent decades creating memories, building relationships and becoming part of the lives of family members, friends and others who knew him.

His death has left a painful emptiness for those who loved him. A life that had continued for 65 years was suddenly brought to an end in a moment of violence, leaving loved ones to face the difficult reality that Kenneth will no longer be there to share another conversation, another gathering or another ordinary day.

When someone is taken unexpectedly, the grief can be especially difficult because there is no opportunity to prepare for the goodbye. Families are often left holding onto memories, photographs, stories and the moments they shared with their loved one. Those memories become precious reminders of the person Kenneth was beyond the circumstances of his death.

As the investigation continues, the focus now turns toward understanding exactly what happened and ensuring that the circumstances surrounding Kenneth’s death are fully examined. The arrest of a suspect is only one part of that process, and authorities will determine the appropriate next steps as the investigation develops.

For Kenneth’s family and friends, however, no investigation can change the deepest reality of this tragedy: someone they loved is gone.

May Kenneth McWilliams be remembered not simply for the violence that ended his life, but for the years he lived, the people he touched and the memories he leaves behind. May those who knew and loved him find strength in one another during this painful time.

Rest in peace, Kenneth McWilliams. May your memory remain a blessing, and may your family and loved ones find comfort, strength and peace in the days ahead.
