NORTHAMPTON COUNTY, Pa. — A young life was tragically cut short following a devastating single-vehicle crash in Allen Township, leaving family, friends and loved ones to mourn the loss of 20-year-old Daniel Gutierrez of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police – Bethlehem, the fatal crash occurred on Thursday, August 14, 2026, at approximately 10:00 p.m. on Weaversville Road at Drexel Drive in Allen Township, Northampton County.
Troopers were dispatched to the area shortly after 10:00 p.m. following reports of a motor vehicle crash involving injuries.
When emergency crews arrived, they found a severely damaged 2020 Honda Civic that had traveled off the roadway after the driver lost control.
Investigators said the vehicle had been traveling north on Weaversville Road when it crossed the middle double yellow line separating the two lanes of traffic. According to the preliminary crash report, the vehicle entered the opposite lane in an attempt to pass multiple vehicles.
The report states that the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it reached a slight uphill portion of the roadway. Because of the roadway’s elevation, the driver was unable to see approaching traffic ahead.
The vehicle subsequently lost control and crossed back into the northbound lane.
It then crossed the fog line and left the roadway.
The vehicle’s initial point of impact was a utility pole. The force of the collision caused the vehicle to continue traveling through a nearby cornfield, where it overturned multiple times.
After the violent sequence of impacts, the vehicle finally came to rest east of Weaversville Road.
The Honda sustained disabling damage in the crash.
Tragically, the driver, identified as Daniel Gutierrez, 20, of Bethlehem, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Daniel was not transported to a hospital because his injuries were fatal.
The crash has left those who knew him facing a heartbreaking loss. At just 20 years old, Daniel had so much life still ahead of him — dreams yet to be fulfilled, experiences yet to be lived and memories yet to be made.
His death serves as a painful reminder of how quickly an ordinary journey can become a tragedy.
For his family and friends, Daniel was far more than a name in a crash report. He was a son, a friend, a loved one and a young man whose life mattered deeply to the people around him.
The moments he shared with those closest to him will now become treasured memories. His smile, his voice, his personality and the memories created together will remain part of the lives of those who loved him.
According to the preliminary report, Daniel was wearing a lap and shoulder belt at the time of the crash.
The Pennsylvania State Police did not list a driver charge in the public information release provided. Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash, and the information released by police is considered preliminary and subject to change as additional details become available.
The crash required a significant emergency response.
Assisting Pennsylvania State Police at the scene were the Allen Township Fire Department, Northampton Regional EMS, Northampton Regional Fire Department, Northampton County Coroner’s Office, Ironton Towing, PennDOT and PPL.
Weaversville Road was closed for approximately four hours while emergency personnel worked at the scene, investigators documented evidence and the damaged vehicle was removed.
Trooper Matthew DeStefano of PSP Bethlehem is investigating the crash.
As the investigation continues, Daniel’s loved ones are left with the difficult task of saying goodbye to someone who was taken far too soon.
There are no words that can completely describe the pain of losing a young person with an entire future ahead of them. A sudden death leaves families with questions, memories and an emptiness that can be difficult to put into words.
Daniel’s life may have ended on a Pennsylvania roadway, but his memory will continue through the people who knew him and the moments they shared.
His family will remember him not for the circumstances of his final moments, but for the life he lived — the memories he created, the people he loved and the impact he had on those fortunate enough to know him.
In the days ahead, family and friends will come together to grieve, remember and support one another. They will share stories, look back on photographs and hold tightly to the memories that cannot be taken away.
While the road ahead may be difficult, may those who loved Daniel find comfort in knowing that his life had meaning and that he will never be forgotten.
Rest peacefully, Daniel Gutierrez. 🕊️
You were taken from this world far too soon, but the memories you left behind will remain in the hearts of those who loved you.
