ABBEVILLE, Miss. — The Abbeville community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 19-year-old Chloe Johnson, who died Friday after a devastating single-vehicle crash on County Road 103 near County Road 104. Her passenger, 19-year-old Zoe Johnson, was seriously injured and remains in critical but stable condition.
The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office said emergency dispatchers received a 911 call at approximately 4:07 p.m. reporting the crash. When deputies arrived, they found the vehicle on the east side of County Road 103 with two occupants inside.
Deputies immediately worked to remove both women from the vehicle. Their efforts became especially urgent when the vehicle began catching fire. Both occupants were successfully rescued before emergency personnel continued treating them.
The Lafayette County Fire Department and Baptist EMS responded and provided medical assistance at the scene.
Despite those efforts, Chloe suffered fatal injuries. Lafayette County Coroner Glenn Coleman pronounced her dead at the scene.
At just 19 years old, Chloe’s life ended before she had the opportunity to experience so many of the moments that should have been ahead of her. Her family and friends are now left facing the unimaginable pain of saying goodbye to someone so young.
Zoe was airlifted by Hospital Wing to Region One Medical Center in Memphis, where she remains in critical but stable condition. While grieving Chloe, her loved ones are also waiting and praying for Zoe’s recovery.
The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division is investigating the crash. Authorities said the incident appears to have involved only one vehicle and that there is currently no indication of foul play.
Sheriff Joey East expressed his condolences to Chloe’s family, friends, and everyone affected by the tragedy. He also urged the community to keep the family in their thoughts and prayers and to respect their privacy as they grieve.
For everyone who knew Chloe, the road ahead will be difficult. Her absence will be felt in everyday moments, family gatherings, conversations, and memories.
Although her life ended far too soon, the memories she created will remain with those who loved her.
