BEAUMONT, Texas — The Beaumont community is mourning the tragic loss of 38-year-old Justin Balka, who has been identified as the victim of a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred Friday night on Washington Boulevard.

The heartbreaking collision happened at approximately 8:40 p.m. in the area of the 2900 block of Washington Boulevard, between 4th and 5th Street, near Donohue Street. Beaumont Police responded after receiving a report of an auto-pedestrian crash.

When officers arrived, they discovered a man lying unresponsive in the roadway. Beaumont EMS personnel also responded to the scene, but tragically, Justin had already died from the injuries he sustained in the collision.

According to the preliminary investigation, Justin was attempting to cross Washington Boulevard when he was struck by a vehicle. Instead of remaining at the scene and assisting or waiting for emergency personnel, the driver reportedly failed to stop and fled the area.

Justin was just 38 years old.

His death has left family, friends, and those who knew him facing an unimaginable loss. A normal Friday evening became a devastating moment that forever changed the lives of those who loved him.

A Tragic Hit-and-Run

The circumstances surrounding Justin’s death remain under investigation as Beaumont police work to identify the vehicle and driver involved.

Investigators believe the vehicle struck Justin while he was attempting to cross the roadway. The driver then left the scene, leaving Justin behind in the roadway.

The decision to leave the scene has added another heartbreaking dimension to an already tragic loss. Justin’s loved ones are now left grieving while investigators continue searching for answers about what happened and who was responsible.

The crash scene was secured by police as investigators began documenting evidence and examining the area. Officers blocked portions of the roadway and placed yellow crime-scene tape around the scene while the investigation was underway.

KFDM was also on scene capturing video as police worked to secure the area and investigate the deadly collision.

Remembering Justin Balka

Justin’s death is not simply a traffic statistic or another entry in a police report. He was a person with a life, memories, relationships, and people who cared about him.

At only 38 years old, Justin’s life was taken far too soon.

His loved ones are now left with memories of the moments they shared with him and the painful reality that there will be no opportunity to create new ones.

In the aftermath of a sudden death, family and friends often find themselves remembering the smallest details — a familiar smile, a conversation, a laugh, a favorite memory, or an ordinary moment that seemed insignificant at the time but becomes precious after someone is gone.

Those memories become part of the legacy a person leaves behind.

For Justin’s family and friends, the coming days and weeks will undoubtedly be difficult as they try to process his sudden passing and come to terms with a loss they never expected.

Investigation Continues

The Beaumont Police Department’s Traffic Unit is investigating the fatal crash.

Authorities have not released further details about the vehicle involved or the identity of the driver responsible for the collision in the information provided. Investigators continue to work to piece together what happened and locate the driver who left the scene.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash, seen a vehicle leaving the area, or has information that could assist investigators is encouraged to contact Beaumont police.

Witness information can be especially important in hit-and-run investigations. Even seemingly small details — including the direction a vehicle traveled, its appearance, damage it may have sustained, or the approximate time it was seen — could potentially help investigators identify the vehicle involved.

A Family Left to Grieve

For Justin’s loved ones, the investigation cannot undo what happened.

No arrest, investigation, or explanation can bring him back.

But finding answers can help provide accountability and may give his family some measure of closure as they continue to mourn.

Justin deserved to make it home that night.

Instead, his life came to a tragic end on a Beaumont roadway, leaving behind people who must now learn to live with his absence.

The pain of losing someone suddenly can be overwhelming. There is often no preparation for the phone call, the news, or the realization that someone who was here one moment is gone the next.

Justin’s loved ones will carry his memory forward, remembering him not for the circumstances of his death, but for the life he lived and the person he was.

Gone Too Soon

At 38, Justin had so much life ahead of him. There were undoubtedly more memories to make, more conversations to have, more places to see, and more moments that his family and friends expected to share with him.

Those moments were taken away far too soon.

As the investigation continues, the Beaumont community is reminded once again of how quickly tragedy can strike and how deeply a sudden loss can affect an entire circle of people.

May Justin Balka be remembered with love, dignity, and compassion.

May his family and friends find strength during this incredibly difficult time.

And may the investigation ultimately provide the answers his loved ones deserve.

Rest in peace, Justin Balka.

You were taken far too soon, but you will never be forgotten.
