With profound sadness, we remember Marcus D. Gordon, 39, of Birmingham, Alabama, whose life was tragically cut short after he was struck by two vehicles while riding his bicycle in Jefferson County.

Authorities identified Gordon as the bicyclist who died in the early-morning crash, which occurred at approximately 3:51 a.m. Thursday in the 3100 block of Sweeney Hollow Road near Amy Drive N.E., about two miles north of Center Point.

According to Alabama State Troopers, Gordon was initially struck by a Chevrolet Tahoe operated by a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputy. Following the first collision, Gordon was struck a second time by a Volvo tractor-trailer traveling through the area.

The tractor-trailer was driven by 60-year-old Leon Hapton of Pinson, according to authorities. Troopers have not released the identity of the Jefferson County deputy involved in the initial collision.

The impact caused Gordon to be thrown from his bicycle. Emergency personnel responded to the scene, but despite their efforts, Gordon suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at approximately 3:59 a.m.

His death has left a painful void for the people who knew and loved him. At 39 years old, Marcus had so much more life ahead of him, and his sudden passing serves as a heartbreaking reminder of how quickly an ordinary moment can turn into an unimaginable tragedy.

For his family and friends, Marcus was much more than a name in a crash report. He was a loved one, a friend, and a person whose presence mattered to those around him. His life carried memories, relationships, hopes, and moments that will remain with those who had the privilege of knowing him.

The circumstances surrounding the crash are being investigated by Alabama State Troopers. Authorities will continue working to establish the events that led to the collision and determine the full circumstances surrounding Marcus’s death.

As his loved ones mourn, may they find comfort in the memories they shared with Marcus and in the lasting impact he had on their lives. Though his life ended far too soon, the memories of him will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

May his family and friends be surrounded by strength, comfort, and support during this incredibly difficult time. May they find peace in remembering the life Marcus lived rather than only the tragic circumstances surrounding his passing.

Rest peacefully, Marcus D. Gordon.

Your journey ended far too soon, but your memory will remain. May you never be forgotten, and may the love of those who knew you continue to carry your memory forward.

Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever remembered. Never forgotten.
