With heavy hearts, we remember Marcus D. Gordon, 39, of Birmingham, Alabama, whose life was tragically taken in a devastating early-morning bicycle crash in Jefferson County.
The fatal incident occurred at approximately 3:51 a.m. Thursday in the 3100 block of Sweeney Hollow Road near Amy Drive N.E., roughly two miles north of Center Point.
According to Alabama State Troopers, Marcus was riding his bicycle when he was struck by a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Chevrolet Tahoe. Following the initial collision, he was struck again by a Volvo tractor-trailer traveling through the area. The tractor-trailer was operated by 60-year-old Leon Hapton of Pinson.
Authorities have not released the name of the sheriff’s deputy who was driving the patrol vehicle.
The force of the collisions threw Marcus from his bicycle. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but sadly, his injuries were fatal. He was pronounced dead at approximately 3:59 a.m.
Marcus was only 39 years old, a life that ended far too soon and under heartbreaking circumstances. His passing has undoubtedly left family members, friends, and others who knew him struggling to comprehend such a sudden loss.
Behind every tragic headline is a person whose life mattered. Marcus was someone with his own memories, relationships, experiences, and people who cared deeply about him. His absence will be felt by those who knew him, and the memories he leaves behind will remain a lasting part of their lives.
The investigation into the crash remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the circumstances that led to the fatal collisions.
During this difficult time, our thoughts are with Marcus’s family, friends, and everyone grieving his loss. May they find comfort in the memories they shared with him and strength in one another as they navigate the days ahead.
Although Marcus’s life was tragically cut short, the memories of the person he was will continue to live on. May those memories bring comfort to his loved ones and serve as a reminder of the life he lived and the people whose lives he touched.
Rest in peace, Marcus D. Gordon.
You were taken from this world far too soon, but your memory will remain in the hearts of those who loved and cared for you.
