Mark Morgan was identified by his family as the person who was found dead Tuesday morning with apparent gunshot wounds at a residence on South Road in Somers, Connecticut, as state police investigate a homicide.
Connecticut State Police troopers from Troop C in Tolland responded to the area at approximately 4 a.m. after receiving a report of a suspicious incident, according to authorities.
When troopers arrived, they discovered a person suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Despite the response of emergency personnel, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim was later identified by family as Mark Morgan.
Authorities have not yet released additional details about Morgan’s age or the circumstances leading up to the shooting. Investigators are continuing to work to determine exactly what happened and what led to the fatal violence.
A second person was also located at the scene and detained by police as part of the investigation. Authorities have not identified that individual and have not said whether the person has been formally arrested or whether criminal charges will be filed.
Police emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the public in connection with the incident.
The Eastern District Major Crime Squad, a specialized Connecticut State Police unit responsible for investigating serious crimes in eastern Connecticut, responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.
The scene remained active during the early morning hours as investigators worked to document evidence and establish the sequence of events. A WFSB crew observed several Connecticut State Police cruisers outside the property at approximately 6 a.m. A trooper was also seen positioned on Parker Road behind the residence, while police tape had been placed across the driveway.
The investigation is currently in its early stages, and state police have described the case as active, fluid, and ongoing. Authorities have not immediately released information regarding a possible motive or provided details about what may have led to Morgan’s death.
