With heavy hearts, we remember Ronald Williams Sr., 53, Kelly George, 44, Carol A. Williams, 9, Ronald H. Williams Jr., 7, Sarah K. Williams, 5, and Kelly M. Magee-Williams, 3, whose lives were tragically lost following a devastating shooting at a home in Winfield, Kansas.
The heartbreaking incident occurred Tuesday morning at a residence in the 400 block of West 9th Street. Winfield police officers were dispatched to the home at approximately 8:50 a.m. after receiving a report of a disturbing situation involving members of a family.
Authorities are investigating the deaths as an apparent murder-suicide. Police identified Ronald Williams Sr., 53, as the male suspect and confirmed that he also died in the incident.
The five other people who lost their lives were identified as Kelly George, 44, and four children — Carol A. Williams, 9, Ronald H. Williams Jr., 7, Sarah K. Williams, 5, and Kelly M. Magee-Williams, 3.
According to authorities, a man reportedly contacted 911 and said he intended to harm himself and his family, while also stating that everyone inside the residence was deceased. Officers responded quickly to the home, where they encountered the tragic scene.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) was called in to assist the Winfield Police Department with the homicide investigation. Investigators are working to secure the scene, collect evidence, speak with witnesses and establish a clearer timeline of the events that led to the deaths.
The tragedy has sent shockwaves throughout the Winfield community. The loss of six lives in a single incident has left family members, friends and community members grieving and searching for answers.
Four of those who died were young children — Carol, Ronald Jr., Sarah and Kelly — whose lives were tragically cut short. Their deaths have brought an especially profound sense of sorrow to those who knew and loved them.
Kelly George, 44, was also among those who died, leaving loved ones to cope with an unimaginable loss and the painful aftermath of the tragedy.
Ronald Williams Sr., 53, who authorities identified as the suspect, also died. His death is part of the six fatalities currently being investigated by authorities.
