BERKELEY COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA — With profound sadness, family, friends, and the St. Stephen community are mourning the tragic loss of Franklin B. Crawford, 85, whose life was cut short in a devastating pedestrian accident on Thursday.

According to the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office, Franklin B. Crawford was fatally struck by a Ford pickup truck while crossing Schurlknight Road near Backwoods Road at approximately 11:00 a.m. The South Carolina Highway Patrol reported that the truck was traveling westbound when the collision occurred.

Emergency responders from the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office, Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, South Carolina Highway Patrol, Berkeley County EMS, and North Berkeley Fire & Rescue quickly arrived at the scene. Despite their efforts, Crawford was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured.

Authorities have confirmed that an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash remains ongoing as officials continue gathering evidence and determining the events that led to the collision.
