ST. CROIX — With heavy hearts, family, friends and loved ones are mourning the tragic loss of 21-year-old Angel Rodriguez III, who was fatally shot Monday afternoon near the Superior Court on St. Croix.
Angel’s life came to a heartbreaking end at an age when so much of his future was still ahead of him. At just 21 years old, there were dreams to pursue, goals to accomplish, places to see and countless memories still waiting to be made with the people who loved him.
According to the Virgin Islands Police Department, the St. Croix 911 Emergency Call Center received several reports of gunfire at approximately 2:06 p.m. Monday. Callers reported that a man had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
When officers arrived, they found Angel unresponsive inside a vehicle near the entrance to the Superior Court parking lot. Emergency Medical Services personnel responded and confirmed that he had died from his injuries.
The VIPD later identified the victim as Angel Rodriguez III after notifying his next of kin. The Criminal Investigation Bureau is investigating the shooting as a homicide.
For Angel’s loved ones, however, this is more than a police investigation. It is the heartbreaking loss of a young man whose life mattered deeply to those around him.
Angel was someone’s son, brother, relative, friend and loved one. He was part of a family that expected to have many more years, celebrations and memories with him. His sudden passing has left a painful emptiness that words cannot easily describe.
At 21, there should have been more birthdays, family gatherings, friendships, accomplishments and opportunities to experience everything life had to offer. Instead, his loved ones are now facing the difficult reality of saying goodbye far too soon.
Memories will now become precious reminders of Angel. A photograph, a familiar place, a favorite song, a conversation or a simple story may bring back the moments that made him special.
Although his life ended tragically, he should never be remembered only as a victim. He was a person with his own story, relationships and dreams. His life touched others, and his memory will continue through the people who knew and loved him.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact 911, the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-778-2211, or Crime Stoppers V.I. at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
During this difficult time, thoughts and prayers are with Angel’s family, friends and everyone affected by his passing.
May they find strength in one another, comfort in their memories and peace as they navigate the days ahead.
Rest peacefully, Angel Rodriguez III.
Your life was far too short, but your memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved you.
Forever remembered.
Forever loved.
Forever missed.
