HARTSELLE, Ala. — With heavy hearts, family, friends, and loved ones are mourning the loss of 76-year-old Randall C. Gibbs of Hartselle, whose life came to a tragic end after he went missing while boating on Wheeler Lake.
Authorities confirmed that Gibbs’ body was recovered Saturday afternoon, bringing a heartbreaking end to the search that had continued since Friday morning. According to ALEA Capt. Jeremy Burkett, Gibbs was found shortly before 2 p.m. near First Creek on Wheeler Lake in Lauderdale County.
Gibbs had been reported missing after he failed to return from a boating outing Friday morning. What began as a search for a missing boater ultimately became a recovery effort as authorities worked to locate him in the waters of Wheeler Lake.
When Gibbs was recovered, authorities said he was not wearing a personal flotation device. The circumstances surrounding his disappearance and death remain part of the investigation, and officials are expected to provide additional information as the recovery and investigation continue.
