With heavy hearts, we remember Damion Proffit, a 35-year-old Fargo, North Dakota, man whose life came to a tragic end following a vehicle crash in the early morning hours of August 8.

Damion’s death has brought sorrow to those who knew him and those who are now mourning his unexpected passing. At just 35 years old, his life ended suddenly, leaving behind memories and loved ones who must now face the difficult reality of his absence.

According to the North Dakota State Patrol, the incident began shortly after midnight when authorities attempted to stop a man they knew was driving with a suspended license. The attempted traffic stop took place in the 700 block of Broadway North in Fargo.

Authorities said the driver did not stop and fled from officers. The North Dakota State Patrol reported that officers did not pursue the vehicle.

A Fargo police officer later located the vehicle after it had crashed in the 1500 block of Dakota Drive.

Investigators said the vehicle struck a tree and then continued traveling between two apartment buildings before coming to a stop. The driver sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash victim was later identified as Damion Proffit, 35, of Fargo.

The collision also caused debris from the wrecked vehicle to strike an unoccupied car, resulting in extensive damage. Fortunately, no one was inside that vehicle at the time, and authorities reported that no one other than the driver was injured.

Although investigators will continue examining the circumstances surrounding the crash, for Damion’s loved ones, the most important part of this tragedy is the person they have lost.

Damion was more than a name in a crash report. He was a human being with a life, memories, relationships and people who knew him and cared about him.

His death serves as another painful reminder of how quickly life can change. A single moment can leave families facing a future they never expected and wishing they had more time with someone they loved.

At 35, Damion still had many years that should have been ahead of him. There could have been more birthdays, more conversations, more family moments, more friendships and countless opportunities to create new memories.

Instead, his loved ones are now left with the memories he gave them.

Those memories may bring tears today, but with time, they can also become a source of comfort. The photographs, stories and moments shared with Damion will remain reminders that his life mattered and that he will not simply be forgotten.

The North Dakota State Patrol continues to document the circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities have stated that the attempted traffic stop involved a driver with a suspended license and that the driver fled before the crash occurred. Officers did not pursue the vehicle.

As the community learns of Damion’s passing, our thoughts are with his family, friends and everyone grieving this heartbreaking loss.

We hope those closest to him find comfort in one another and strength in the memories they shared with him.

No words can erase the pain of losing someone unexpectedly, but remembering their life can help ensure that their story continues to be told.

Rest peacefully, Damion Proffit.

Your life ended far too soon, but your memory will remain with those who knew you and cared about you.

Gone too soon. Forever remembered. Forever missed.

Please keep Damion’s loved ones in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this difficult time.
