In Loving Memory of Horace Brooks, 69

With deep sadness, we remember Horace Brooks, 69, of Opelousas, Louisiana, who tragically lost his life after being attacked by two dogs on South Court Street shortly after midnight.

According to the Opelousas Police Department, officers responded to the 600 block of South Court Street following a report of a dog attack. When officers arrived, they found Brooks unresponsive and suffering from severe injuries. Emergency responders treated him at the scene, but sadly, he was pronounced dead.

Police Chief Graig LeBlanc said Brooks had been walking north toward his apartment complex when the dogs’ owner, 49-year-old Kimberly Faulk, arrived at her home. Investigators said Faulk exited her vehicle to enter her residence, and the two dogs also got out. The dogs then reportedly attacked Brooks.

Faulk called for emergency assistance following the attack. Authorities said the exact reason the dogs became aggressive remains unknown, and the circumstances surrounding the incident are still being investigated.

Faulk has been arrested and faces charges of negligent homicide and two counts of unlawful restraint of a dog. Her bond had not been set at the time of the report.

Neighbors expressed sadness and disbelief over Brooks’ death. One neighbor, Craig Hayden, said he had previously seen Faulk walking the dogs and noted that they were usually kept on leashes.

Chief LeBlanc emphasized that investigators had found no indication that Faulk intended for the attack to happen. He described the incident as a devastating tragedy that changed the lives of both Brooks’ family and the dog owner.

For Brooks’ loved ones, the loss is unimaginable. A 69-year-old life filled with memories, relationships and experiences was suddenly taken in a heartbreaking incident.

May his family, friends and everyone who knew him find strength during this difficult time. May the memories of Horace Brooks remain a source of comfort to those who loved him.

18-YEAR-OLD CAMBRIDGE WOMAN KILLED IN SINGLE-VEHICLE ROLLOVER CRASH

CAMBRIDGE, Md. — An 18-year-old Cambridge woman, Alivea Todd, was killed Tuesday afternoon after a single-vehicle rollover crash on Church Creek Road in Dorchester County, Maryland.

Emergency crews were dispatched at approximately 4:12 p.m. to the 2300 block of Church Creek Road, between Pig Neck Road and Dailsville Road, following reports of a serious rollover crash with a person trapped beneath the vehicle.

Initial emergency communications indicated that one person was reportedly trapped under the vehicle. First-arriving responders confirmed that one person was trapped underneath the overturned vehicle in a nearby field.

Multiple emergency agencies responded to the scene, including Cambridge Rescue Fire Company, Church Creek, Madison, Trappe, Linkwood, East New Market, and medical personnel. Maryland State Police Aviation Trooper 6 was also requested as emergency crews worked to reach the trapped occupant.

At approximately 4:26 p.m., responders reported that extrication had been completed. The patient was determined to be in traumatic cardiac arrest.

Despite the efforts of emergency personnel, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene approximately four minutes later, at 4:30 p.m.

According to investigators, Todd was traveling southbound on Church Creek Road when she approached a left-hand curve. For reasons that remain unknown, she lost control of the vehicle.

The vehicle subsequently left the roadway and overturned, coming to rest in a field. The violent nature of the crash resulted in Todd becoming trapped beneath the vehicle, requiring emergency responders to conduct an extrication operation.

The crash prompted a significant emergency response and temporary traffic restrictions in the area. Church Creek Road was closed for approximately two hours while Maryland State Police investigated the collision, documented the scene, and worked to determine the circumstances that led to the crash.

Potter County Justice of the Peace Precinct One Debbie Horn pronounced Mathis deceased shortly after 1:00 a.m. on August 12, 2026, and ordered an autopsy.

The Pampa Police Department said officers were called to Recreation Park, located in the 1600 block of East Highway 60, at approximately 9:45 a.m. on August 11 following a report of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found Mathis suffering from a gunshot wound. He was airlifted to an Amarillo hospital in serious condition, but later died as a result of the injuries he sustained.

The Pampa Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division and the Texas Rangers continued working to determine what happened and identify the person responsible.

During the investigation, authorities developed information identifying Leith as a suspect through witness statements, surveillance video, a Crime Stoppers tip, and automated license plate reader technology.

Based on the evidence gathered at that point, investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Leith on a charge of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

Authorities continued searching for Leith and his vehicle. During the afternoon of August 11, investigators received an automated license plate reader alert indicating that Leith’s vehicle had been detected near Wichita Falls.

Law enforcement agencies in the surrounding area were notified and asked to watch for the vehicle.

A subsequent ALPR alert showed that the vehicle was traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 287 toward Decatur. The Decatur Police Department was notified and later located and stopped the vehicle.

Leith was taken into custody without further incident and subsequently booked into the Wise County Jail.

After authorities were notified that Mathis had died from his injuries, investigators obtained an additional arrest warrant charging Leith with Murder. Pampa police said Leith remains in custody at the Wise County Jail.

The investigation remains active as detectives continue working to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting and the events that led to Mathis’ death.

The case began as a shooting investigation Tuesday morning and developed into a homicide investigation following Mathis’ death early Wednesday.

Authorities have asked anyone who may have information about the shooting to contact the Top of Texas Crime Stoppers tip line at 806-669-2222.

  • IN LOVING MEMORY OF JOMILTRON SENTELL FAIR JR.

IN LOVING MEMORY OF JOMILTRON SENTELL FAIR JR.

With profound sadness, we remember 17-year-old Jomiltron Sentell Fair Jr., a Gaffney High School student whose life was tragically cut short Wednesday morning in a shooting near a school bus stop on West Rutledge Avenue in Gaffney, South Carolina.

According to the Cherokee County Coroner’s Office, Fair was preparing to board his school bus at approximately 6:49 a.m. when he was approached by a male suspect near the bus stop in the 500 block of West Rutledge Avenue. Authorities said a brief altercation occurred before Fair was shot. Despite the immediate presence of others, the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fair had reportedly walked from his apartment across the street to catch the school bus, beginning what should have been an ordinary morning on his way to school. Instead, a devastating act of violence ended the life of a young student with so much of his future still ahead of him.

The tragedy unfolded in front of approximately 15 students who were aboard the school bus and reportedly witnessed the shooting. The incident has understandably sent shockwaves through the Gaffney community, particularly coming only days after Cherokee County students returned to school for the new academic year.

Investigators are working to determine exactly what led to the confrontation and identify everyone involved. Surveillance footage from the school bus reportedly captured the suspected shooter fleeing the area before getting into a nearby waiting vehicle driven by another person.

The Gaffney Police Department has launched an active investigation, with assistance from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) Special Victims Unit – Department of Child Fatalities. The specialized unit routinely assists with investigations involving unexpected, suspicious, unexplained, or violent deaths of children under the age of 18.

In response to the shooting, Gaffney Police Chief Gerald Knight said additional patrol officers would be stationed near the location where the shooting occurred, as well as at schools throughout the area for the remainder of the week. The increased police presence is intended to provide reassurance and additional security for students, families, school employees, and residents.

The Cherokee County School District and law enforcement officials are continuing to work together as investigators gather evidence and seek answers. Authorities have also asked members of the public to avoid the area and use alternate routes while the investigation remains active.

For Fair’s family, friends, classmates, teachers, and everyone who knew him, the loss is immeasurable. A 17-year-old life filled with possibilities has been taken far too soon, leaving behind grief, unanswered questions, and a community struggling to understand such a heartbreaking loss.

A school bus stop should be a place where students gather safely before beginning their day. On this morning, it instead became the scene of a tragedy that will forever remain in the memories of those who witnessed it.

As investigators continue their work, the Gaffney community is left to mourn a young life that should have had many more chapters to come. Fair was only 17 years old, with dreams, hopes, friendships, and a future that had yet to unfold.

May Jomiltron Sentell Fair Jr. be remembered not only for the tragic circumstances surrounding his death, but for the young person he was and the lives he touched during his time here.

🕊️ Rest in peace, Jomiltron Sentell Fair Jr.
May his family, friends, classmates, teachers, and loved ones find strength and comfort during this heartbreaking time. May those who loved him carry his memory in their hearts, and may the community continue to stand together as authorities work to bring answers to his family.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are expected to release additional information as it becomes available.

Rest peacefully, Jomiltron. You were taken far too soon and will never be forgotten.

With profound sadness, we remember 14-year-old Connor T. Braden of Latrobe, whose young life was tragically cut short Monday night in a fatal train-pedestrian accident in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.

According to the Westmoreland County Coroner’s Office, Connor was walking along the railroad tracks near milepost 320 in Hempfield Township when he was struck by an eastbound Norfolk Southern cargo train at approximately 8:57 p.m. Monday. Despite the circumstances, Connor could not be saved and was pronounced dead at approximately 9:30 p.m.

The coroner’s office determined that Connor’s cause of death was blunt force injuries sustained after being struck by the train. The Pennsylvania State Police also responded to and investigated the heartbreaking incident, with additional details expected to be released as the investigation continues.

Connor was only 14 years old—a young life filled with possibilities, dreams, and a future that should have stretched far ahead. His passing is a devastating reminder of how quickly life can change and how deeply the loss of a young person can affect a family and an entire community.

At an age when there should have been more memories to make, more milestones to celebrate, and more moments to share with loved ones, Connor’s life came to an unimaginable end. His family and those who knew him are now left to grieve a loss that words can never fully describe.

The Westmoreland County Coroner’s Office also expressed appreciation for the public’s assistance during the identification process.

  • IN LOVING MEMORY OF JOSHUA THOMPSON, 40 — TRAGICALLY LOST IN TUSCUMBIA CRASH

IN LOVING MEMORY OF JOSHUA THOMPSON, 40 — TRAGICALLY LOST IN TUSCUMBIA CRASH

With profound sadness, we remember Joshua Thompson, 40, of Cherokee, whose life was tragically cut short Tuesday following a devastating vehicle crash in Tuscumbia, Alabama.

Joshua was the only occupant of his vehicle when it collided with the rear of a dump truck that was preparing to turn left from U.S. Highway 72 onto Vulcan Road. Despite the efforts of those who responded to the scene, Joshua was pronounced deceased at the scene. No other injuries were reported in the crash.

According to Colbert County Coroner Justin Gasque, Joshua was 40 years old and lived in Cherokee. His sudden passing has left family, friends and those who knew him facing the heartbreaking reality of a life lost far too soon.

The crash was reported at approximately 11:54 a.m. Tuesday near the intersection of U.S. Highway 72 and Vulcan Road. Authorities said the dump truck appeared to have been preparing to turn onto Vulcan Road and into Vulcan Materials when the collision occurred.

Witnesses reportedly told police that the dump truck had its turn signal activated as it prepared to make the turn. Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances that led to Joshua’s vehicle striking the back of the truck.

Tuscumbia City Public Safety Administrator Tony Logan emphasized the importance of remaining alert while driving, particularly when traveling around large commercial vehicles. Large trucks can require more time and distance to turn, stop or change direction, making awareness and caution especially important on busy highways.

The force of the crash left the front end of Joshua’s vehicle heavily damaged. His vehicle remained behind the dump truck in the left westbound lane of U.S. Highway 72 while authorities investigated the scene.

The crash also caused significant traffic disruption. Westbound traffic backed up toward the Alabama Music Hall of Fame, while eastbound traffic was detoured onto Old Lee Highway toward downtown Tuscumbia.

Because the incident involved a highway fatality, a certified traffic homicide investigator was required to assist with the investigation. Tuscumbia’s certified investigator was not working at the time, so Tuscumbia police contacted Muscle Shoals Police Chief Clint Reck, who quickly sent a certified investigator to the scene.

Authorities carefully documented the crash and worked to determine exactly what happened before the collision. The investigation remains important not only for understanding the circumstances surrounding Joshua’s death but also for providing answers to those who loved him.

The initial emergency call reportedly came in as a crash involving an ejection. When officers arrived, however, they found Joshua inside his vehicle.

One westbound lane was reopened at approximately 1:15 p.m., and Tuscumbia units cleared the scene around 1:55 p.m., after the investigation and necessary roadway work had been completed.

For Joshua’s family and friends, however, the passing of those hours marked the beginning of a much deeper and more painful journey — learning to live with the loss of someone whose life mattered deeply.

    🕊️ Remembering Joshua Thompson

Joshua Thompson, 40, of Cherokee, will be remembered as a life that ended far too soon.

A routine Tuesday became a heartbreaking day for those who knew and loved him. In an instant, a devastating crash changed the lives of Joshua’s family and friends forever.

There are no easy words to explain the pain that comes with losing someone unexpectedly. The shock of a sudden death can leave loved ones with countless questions, memories and moments they wish they could relive.

Joshua deserved many more years of life — more opportunities, more memories, more time with the people who cared about him and more chapters in the story of his life.

Instead, his loved ones are left to remember him through the memories he created and the impact he had during his 40 years.

As the investigation continues, our thoughts remain with Joshua’s family, friends and everyone mourning his passing.

May they find strength in one another during this difficult time. May the memories of Joshua bring comfort in the days ahead. And may his life always be remembered with dignity, compassion and love.

Gone far too soon, but never forgotten.

    May he rest in peace.
