With profound sadness, we remember Ronald H. Williams Sr., 53, Kelly L. George, 44, Carol A. Williams, 9, Ronald H. Williams Jr., 7, Sarah K. Williams, 5, and Kelly M. Magee-Williams, 3, whose lives were tragically lost following a devastating shooting in Winfield, Kansas.
The heartbreaking incident unfolded Tuesday morning at a home in the 400 block of West 9th Avenue, near the intersection of 9th Avenue and Stewart Street.
According to the Winfield Police Department, officers received a call at approximately 8:50 a.m. from a man who reportedly said that he had killed his family and intended to take his own life. Officers immediately responded to the residence and began working to secure the area.
When officers arrived, they reportedly heard a single gunshot coming from the home. A perimeter was established around the residence as police worked to determine what had happened and protect the surrounding community.
At approximately 10:57 a.m., officers breached the front door and entered the home. Inside, they discovered six people deceased.
The deceased were identified as 53-year-old Ronald H. Williams Sr., 44-year-old Kelly L. George, and four children: 9-year-old Carol A. Williams, 7-year-old Ronald H. Williams Jr., 5-year-old Sarah K. Williams, and 3-year-old Kelly M. Magee-Williams.
The deaths of the four children have made the tragedy particularly heartbreaking. Carol, Ronald Jr., Sarah and Kelly were between three and nine years old, with their young lives tragically cut short.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation was requested to assist with the investigation at approximately 11:05 a.m. The KBI said investigators believe Williams Sr. killed the five family members before making the 911 call and later died from what authorities described as a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation and Winfield Police Department continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Authorities have stated that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
For the Winfield community, the tragedy has brought profound grief and sorrow. The loss of six people from one family has left loved ones and community members struggling to comprehend the events that took place.

Kelly L. George, 44, was also among those who died, leaving behind memories and loved ones who must now face an unimaginable loss.
Ronald H. Williams Sr., 53, who authorities identified as the suspect, also died in the incident. His death is part of the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
As investigators continue their work, family, friends and community members are left to mourn and remember those who died.
