BOOTHBAY, Maine — With heavy hearts, the community is mourning the loss of David M. Boucher, 70, of Edgecomb, who died Saturday following a single-vehicle crash on Wiscasset Road in Boothbay.

According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, the crash was reported shortly before 1:55 p.m. Saturday. Investigators believe a medical event may have been the primary cause of the collision, though that determination remains pending a final review by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Authorities said Boucher was traveling south on Wiscasset Road in a white 2016 Dodge Ram 1500 when the pickup crossed the center line and entered the northbound lane. The truck then continued into a driveway, where it struck two parked vehicles that were unoccupied before eventually coming to rest against a shed.

Boucher was the only person inside the truck at the time of the crash.

Emergency medical personnel from the Boothbay Region Ambulance Service responded to the scene and made efforts to resuscitate Boucher. Despite those efforts, he could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said that neither speed nor alcohol is believed to have contributed to the crash. Authorities also reported that Boucher was not wearing a seatbelt and that the vehicle’s airbags did not deploy.

While the circumstances surrounding the collision are still being reviewed, investigators suspect that a medical event may have occurred before the crash. Officials emphasized that the suspected medical cause remains subject to final determination by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

LPD said the initial emergency call came in at approximately 11:59 p.m. Responding officers arrived at the scene and found Vela suffering from serious injuries.

Emergency medical crews provided assistance before transporting Vela to University Medical Center (UMC) for further treatment. Despite the medical team’s efforts, she later died as a result of her injuries.

The Lubbock Police Department’s Major Crash Unit has taken over the investigation as authorities work to determine the circumstances that led to the collision.

Investigators identified the driver as Brian Rodriguez, who was arrested following the crash and charged with Driving While Intoxicated (DWI).

According to LPD, investigators have not found sufficient evidence at this stage to support any additional or enhanced charges connected to Vela’s death. However, police noted that the charges could be modified or additional charges could be filed if new evidence or information becomes available.

STATESBORO, Georgia — The Statesboro community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 23-year-old Ja’Nyah Everett, who died Sunday evening following a devastating single-vehicle crash in Bulloch County that also left two children injured.

Ja’Nyah Everett, a 23-year-old woman from Statesboro, was pronounced dead at the scene after the vehicle she was driving overturned on Old River Road South. The tragic crash occurred during the evening hours of Sunday, August 9, leaving behind a family and loved ones facing an unimaginable loss.

According to authorities, Bulloch County 911 received the emergency call at approximately 7:12 p.m. after the crash was reported near the intersection of Old River Road South and Old Flat Ford Road. Emergency personnel immediately responded to the scene, including Bulloch County EMS, Bulloch County Fire, the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia State Patrol.

When responders arrived, they discovered that the vehicle had overturned after leaving the roadway. The driver, identified as Ja’Nyah Everett, was found at the scene and was pronounced deceased.

Authorities notified Everett’s next of kin later that night.

Preliminary information from Georgia State Patrol Post 45 indicates that Everett was driving a Honda Accord northbound on Old River Road South near Fonnie Knight Road when she entered a curve at a speed investigators believe was too fast for the vehicle to safely negotiate.

The Accord subsequently slid off the roadway and overturned.

The crash became even more heartbreaking because two juveniles were inside the vehicle and were ejected during the collision. Both children survived the crash but suffered injuries and were transported by Bulloch County EMS to Memorial Medical Center in Savannah for medical treatment.

Investigators reported that Everett was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Authorities also reported that the two children were not properly restrained in approved child safety seats.

The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation, and officials have not publicly confirmed whether Everett was the mother or another relative of the two children.

According to the Pickens County Coroner’s Office, authorities responded to 109 Big Foot Road following a report of a death. Chief Deputy Coroner Marsha Alexander responded to the scene, where one person was found deceased.

The investigation determined that the victim had suffered at least one gunshot wound. The deceased was identified as Douglas James Nelson, a 63-year-old resident of Pickens.

The Pickens County Coroner’s Office has officially ruled Nelson’s death a homicide. His death has left a family, friends, loved ones, and members of the community facing an unimaginable loss as investigators work to determine exactly what happened.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday, August 10, as investigators continue gathering information surrounding Nelson’s death. The examination is expected to assist authorities as they work to establish additional details and further understand the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting.

A Fargo police officer later located the vehicle after it had crashed in the 1500 block of Dakota Drive.

The crash victim was later identified as Damion Proffit, 35, of Fargo.
