ST. CROIX — With profound sadness, we remember 21-year-old Angel Rodriguez III, whose life was tragically cut short Monday afternoon following a shooting near the Superior Court on St. Croix.
Angel’s passing has left family, friends and loved ones mourning a young life that ended far too soon. At only 21 years old, he had so much ahead of him—dreams to pursue, goals to accomplish, places to see and countless memories still waiting to be made.
According to the Virgin Islands Police Department, the St. Croix 911 Emergency Call Center received several reports of shots fired at approximately 2:06 p.m. Monday near the Superior Court. Callers reported that a male victim had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
When officers arrived, they found Angel unresponsive inside a vehicle near the entrance to the parking lot. Emergency Medical Services personnel responded and confirmed that he had died from his injuries.
The VIPD identified the victim as Angel Rodriguez III after notifying his next of kin. The Criminal Investigation Bureau is investigating the shooting as a homicide.
For Angel’s loved ones, this is more than an investigation. It is the heartbreaking loss of someone who was deeply connected to a family, a circle of friends and a community.
Angel was someone’s son, brother, relative, friend and loved one. At 21, there should have been many more birthdays, celebrations, family gatherings, friendships and opportunities ahead.
Instead, his loved ones are now facing the pain of saying goodbye far too soon.
The memories Angel leaves behind may now become precious reminders of his life. A photograph, a familiar song, a conversation or an ordinary moment can bring back memories of the young man they knew and loved.
Although his life ended tragically, Angel should never be remembered only as a victim or a homicide statistic. He was a person with his own story, personality, relationships and dreams. His life mattered, and his memory will continue to matter.
His death marks the 18th homicide reported on St. Croix in 2026 and the 31st across the U.S. Virgin Islands, according to authorities. Behind every statistic is a person and a family left to grieve.
The VIPD is asking anyone with information to contact 911, the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-778-2211, or Crime Stoppers V.I. at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
Our thoughts and prayers are with Angel’s family, friends and everyone affected by his passing. May they find strength in one another and comfort in the memories they shared.
Rest peacefully, Angel Rodriguez III.
Your life was far too short, but your memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved you.
Forever remembered. Forever loved. Forever missed.
