With profound sadness, we remember Robin Parker, 62, of Springfield, whose life was tragically cut short following a two-vehicle crash on Monday morning, August 17, 2026. Robin was riding her motorcycle when she was involved in a collision at the intersection of Kearney Street and Patterson Avenue. Despite being transported to a hospital for treatment, she sadly succumbed to her injuries.
The Springfield Police Department said officers responded to the crash at approximately 9:14 a.m. after receiving reports of the collision. According to the preliminary investigation, a 2020 Dodge Ram pickup driven by 78-year-old Melvin Sommerfeld of Fordland was traveling eastbound on Kearney Street in the center lane.
Sommerfeld was attempting to turn left onto Patterson Avenue, heading north, when his pickup entered the path of a 2004 Yamaha motorcycle traveling westbound on Kearney Street. The motorcycle, ridden by Robin Parker, struck the pickup during the turn.
Robin was seriously injured in the collision and was transported to a local hospital. Sadly, her injuries proved fatal, and she passed away after the crash. Police confirmed that Robin’s family was notified of her death.
Her passing marks another heartbreaking loss for the Springfield community. Authorities noted that this was Springfield’s 11th fatal motor vehicle crash of 2026, bringing the year’s total number of people killed in fatal motor vehicle crashes in the city to 12.
Behind every number is a person whose absence leaves an empty space in the lives of family members, friends, coworkers, neighbors, and others who knew and loved them. For Robin’s family and those closest to her, this tragedy is not simply another traffic statistic—it is the sudden loss of someone whose life, memories, and presence mattered deeply.
As they face the difficult days ahead, Robin’s loved ones are left to remember the moments they shared with her and hold close the memories that can never be taken away. Her life may have ended unexpectedly, but the impact she made on those around her will continue through the memories she leaves behind.
The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation. Authorities have not indicated that the investigation is complete, and additional information may be released as investigators work to determine exactly what happened.
