JEFFERSON COUNTY, OHIO — With profound sadness, family, friends, and loved ones are mourning the loss of 29-year-old Corey Shetler of Dillonvale, who tragically lost his life following a serious vehicle crash in Smithfield Township on Sunday evening. His passing has left behind a deep sense of grief for those who knew and loved him, as an investigation continues into the circumstances surrounding the collision.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Steubenville Post, the crash occurred at approximately 8:22 p.m. Sunday on County Road 10, about 0.2 miles west of State Route 152 in Jefferson County.

Corey Shetler was a passenger in one of the vehicles involved in the collision. Despite efforts following the crash, he suffered injuries that proved fatal. Authorities confirmed that Shetler was pronounced deceased at approximately 9:38 p.m.

Investigators said the crash involved a Chevrolet Cavalier traveling westbound on County Road 10 as it approached a right-hand curve and a Chevrolet Silverado traveling eastbound.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the Silverado failed to successfully negotiate a left-hand curve. The pickup truck reportedly traveled off the right side of the roadway before the driver overcorrected. The vehicle then crossed the centerline and entered the path of the westbound Cavalier.

The right side of the Silverado struck the right-front portion of the Cavalier, resulting in a devastating collision.

Following the impact, the Silverado continued off the left side of the roadway and entered a ditch, where it eventually came to rest facing west. The Cavalier remained in the westbound lane, coming to rest partially off the right side of the roadway.

Authorities said alcohol was identified as a contributing factor in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing as troopers work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the collision.

The response to the crash brought together numerous emergency agencies, whose personnel worked at the scene and assisted with the incident. Among those responding were Smithfield Township Fire/EMS/Police Department, Wells Township Police Department, Brilliant Fire/EMS, Dillonvale Fire/EMS, Mt. Pleasant Fire/EMS, Short Creek Fire/EMS, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Ohio Investigative Unit.

For Corey’s family and friends, however, the details of the investigation cannot lessen the heartbreak of losing someone so young. At just 29 years old, Corey Shetler had a life ahead of him filled with possibilities, relationships, memories yet to be made, and moments that his loved ones will now carry in his absence.

A sudden loss like this can leave family members struggling to understand how someone they expected to see, speak with, and share life with can suddenly be gone. The shock of such a tragedy often remains long after the emergency vehicles leave the scene and the investigation begins.

Corey will be remembered by those who knew him not simply as a name connected to a tragic crash, but as a son, family member, friend, and loved one whose life mattered. The memories he created with the people around him will remain a lasting part of his legacy.

As the investigation continues, loved ones are left to grieve privately while coming to terms with a heartbreaking loss that occurred in only moments. They now face the difficult days ahead without Corey by their side.

May the memories of Corey Shetler bring comfort to his family and friends during this painful time. May those who loved him find strength in one another, and may his life never be forgotten.

Rest in peace, Corey Shetler. Your life was precious, your memory will endure, and you will forever be missed.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the crash remains under investigation, and additional information may be released as the investigation progresses.
