With profound sadness, we remember Brenda F. Bernucho, 65, of Morgan City, whose life was tragically cut short after authorities discovered her deceased inside a residence Sunday, August 16, 2026. Her death has left family, friends and loved ones grieving as investigators continue working to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
According to the Morgan City Police Department, officers were dispatched to the area of Pine Street and Maple Street following a request for a welfare check.
When officers arrived, they discovered Brenda deceased inside a residence. Investigators at the scene observed what they described as signs of foul play, prompting authorities to immediately begin a death investigation.
Detectives worked to gather evidence and establish what had happened to the 65-year-old Morgan City resident. As the investigation progressed, authorities identified 49-year-old Whitney Joseph Billiot IV of Morgan City as a suspect.
According to police, detectives obtained evidence they say linked Billiot to Brenda’s death and established probable cause for his arrest.
Billiot was subsequently taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder. He was booked into the Morgan City Police Department Jail as the investigation continued.
While the arrest represents a significant development in the case, authorities said the investigation remains active and ongoing. Detectives are continuing to gather information and examine evidence surrounding Brenda’s death. Additional details are expected to be released when appropriate.
For Brenda’s family and loved ones, however, the investigation is only part of a much deeper tragedy. They are now facing the devastating reality of losing a 65-year-old woman whose life was suddenly and violently taken away.
At 65, Brenda had spent decades building memories, relationships and connections with the people around her. Her death leaves behind an absence that will be felt by everyone who knew and loved her.
Those closest to Brenda will remember her for the life she lived and the moments she shared with others. They may hold onto memories of conversations, family gatherings, laughter, kindness and the countless experiences that made her special.
The circumstances of her death may be difficult for her loved ones to comprehend, particularly as investigators continue working to establish exactly what happened. The grieving process can be made even more painful when a loved one’s life ends under violent circumstances.
In the days ahead, Brenda’s family and friends will have to face milestones and ordinary moments without her presence. Birthdays, holidays, gatherings and familiar places may all serve as reminders of someone who should still be there.
Yet her memory will remain. The love she shared and the relationships she built cannot be erased by the circumstances of her death.
As authorities continue their investigation, may Brenda’s loved ones find strength in one another and comfort in the memories they hold close.
May Brenda F. Bernucho rest in eternal peace. May her memory live on in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved her, and may her family find strength, comfort and healing during this heartbreaking time.
