ST. ALBANS, WEST VIRGINIA — Cecil Pomeroy, Jr. has died following an alleged violent altercation involving Tyrone DeShawn Washington of Culloden, West Virginia, at the EZ Street Bar in St. Albans during the early morning hours of Saturday, August 15, 2026. According to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, Washington has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder and malicious assault in connection with Cecil’s death.
Road deputies with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office responded to the EZ Street Bar at approximately 12:46 a.m. after receiving a report of a fight. When deputies arrived, they discovered Cecil lying unconscious in the parking lot of the business.
Investigators later determined, based on eyewitness accounts and video surveillance, that Cecil had entered into a verbal argument with Washington. Authorities say the disagreement escalated, and Washington allegedly struck Cecil several times, causing life-threatening injuries.
Cecil was transported to Thomas Hospital for emergency medical treatment. Tragically, his injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
