In Loving Memory of Haylan Engdahl and Brayden Rogers

It is with great sadness that we remember Haylan Engdahl and Brayden Rogers, two sophomores at Milligan University and members of its cycling team who tragically lost their lives in a devastating crash in Carter County, Tennessee.

The collision occurred Wednesday morning on Highway 19 near Simerly Creek Road, in the Hampton area of Carter County. The Tennessee Highway Patrol said the crash happened around 9:30 a.m. and involved members of the Milligan cycling team.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene after the collision was reported. Police officers, firefighters, medical personnel and several medical helicopters responded as rescuers worked to assist those involved and transport the injured for treatment.

Milligan University confirmed that Haylan Engdahl and Brayden Rogers were the two team members who died. The university also reported that several other cyclists were seriously injured and were receiving medical care.

A number of victims were transported to Johnson City Medical Center, where medical teams and trauma specialists were prepared to provide emergency treatment.

The deaths of Haylan and Brayden have brought overwhelming grief to their families and the Milligan University community. As sophomores, both young men had so much of life still ahead of them, making their sudden passing especially heartbreaking.

Their teammates are now dealing with the pain of losing two friends while also supporting cyclists who were seriously injured in the same crash. The cycling team, which brought Haylan and Brayden together with others who shared their passion for the sport, has been deeply affected by the tragedy.

Beyond the university, the crash has brought sorrow to everyone who knew the students and to those affected by the incident. Their families are now left with memories of their lives and the moments they shared together.

Ballad Health said it was deeply saddened by the crash and confirmed that medical teams were working with emergency responders to care for the injured. Trauma surgeons were available at Johnson City Medical Center as victims arrived for treatment.

Authorities confirmed that two people died at the scene, while others were transported to medical facilities. The highway was closed for a period of time as emergency crews worked and investigators examined the crash site.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances of the collision. Authorities are expected to release additional information as the investigation develops.

For Haylan and Brayden’s loved ones, the most important thing now is remembering the people they were beyond this heartbreaking event. Their lives were filled with relationships, friendships and experiences that will remain part of the memories of those closest to them.

Although their lives ended far too soon, the impact they had on their families, friends and teammates will not be forgotten.
