GOODYEAR, AZ — Nineteen-year-old Jaguar Williams has died after being critically wounded in a shooting at a house party in Goodyear early Saturday morning, while another adult man suffered a minor graze wound, according to Goodyear police. The shooting is being investigated as a homicide.
The incident happened in the early morning hours as a gathering involving juveniles and young adults was coming to an end. According to police, officers were called to the area of Loop 303 and Indian School Road just before 2 a.m. after reports of multiple gunshots in the area.
Police said several juveniles and young adults were leaving the party when the gunfire erupted. The sudden sound of gunshots sent people fleeing from the gathering and prompted an emergency response from law enforcement and medical personnel.
When officers arrived, they located Jaguar Williams, 19, near Indian School Road and Loop 303 suffering from life-threatening injuries. Emergency medical assistance was provided, and Williams was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Despite efforts to save his life, police said Williams later died at the hospital from the injuries he sustained in the shooting.
The death of the 19-year-old has turned what was reportedly a gathering involving young people into a homicide investigation, leaving investigators working to determine exactly what led to the gunfire and who was responsible.
A second adult male also sought medical treatment following the shooting. According to police, the man drove himself to a hospital after suffering a minor graze wound. His injury was not considered life-threatening, and he was treated and later released from the hospital.
Police have not released additional information about the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including what may have prompted the gunfire or whether the people involved knew one another.
Detectives are continuing to investigate the incident and are expected to examine evidence from the scene, speak with witnesses and work to establish a clear timeline of what happened before, during and after the shooting.
The shooting also affected traffic in the area as investigators worked to process the scene. Police said Indian School Road is restricted in both directions west of Loop 303 while detectives conduct their investigation.
Drivers have been asked to avoid the area and use alternate routes until the investigation and associated road restrictions are completed.
