With profound sadness, we remember 44-year-old Kelly George, 9-year-old Carol A. Williams, 7-year-old Ronald H. Williams Jr., 5-year-old Sarah K. Williams, and 3-year-old Kelly M. Magee-Williams, whose lives were tragically taken in a devastating shooting in Winfield, Kansas.
The heartbreaking incident occurred Tuesday morning at a home in the 400 block of West 9th Street, where Winfield police officers were dispatched at approximately 8:50 a.m. following a report of a serious situation involving a family.
Authorities are investigating the deaths as an apparent murder-suicide. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation and the Winfield Police Department responded to the scene and began working to determine exactly what led to the tragedy.
Police identified 53-year-old Ronald Williams Sr. as the male suspect. Authorities said he was also found deceased.
The victims included Kelly George and four young children — Carol A. Williams, Ronald H. Williams Jr., Sarah K. Williams and Kelly M. Magee-Williams. Their deaths have left family members, friends and the wider Winfield community facing an unimaginable loss.
According to authorities, a man reportedly contacted 911 and said he was going to harm himself and his family and that everyone inside the home was deceased. Officers responded to the residence, and a large law enforcement presence was established as investigators secured the area and began examining the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation later confirmed that the Winfield Police Department had requested assistance with the homicide investigation. Investigators continue to gather evidence and establish a timeline of what happened inside the home.
