MARSHALL COUNTY, Ind. — The Argos community is mourning the tragic loss of Jonathon Hayn of Argos, who died Monday after becoming trapped inside a grain bin at a family farm in Marshall County. His sudden passing has left family members, friends, coworkers, and loved ones facing the heartbreaking reality of an unexpected loss.

First responders were called to the farm in the 14000 block of Maple Road shortly before 4:15 p.m. following reports of an emergency involving a person trapped inside a grain bin. The Marshall County Coroner’s Office was notified of the death shortly after 5 p.m.

According to the coroner’s office, Hayn had been working inside the grain bin when the grain began burning. Officials said it appeared that Hayn became overcome by smoke while inside the bin.

Family members and workers at the farm immediately attempted to rescue him. They worked to remove Hayn from the grain bin but were unable to fully get him out. Firefighters eventually arrived and successfully removed him from the bin.

Despite the rescue efforts, Hayn was pronounced dead at the scene.
