With profound sadness, we remember Brett M. Whitley, a 28-year-old man from Maylene, Alabama, whose life was tragically cut short on Sunday morning, August 9, 2026, following a devastating single-vehicle crash in Bibb County.
Brett’s passing has left behind a heartbreaking sense of loss for his family, friends, and everyone who knew and cared about him. At only 28 years old, Brett had so much life still ahead of him, with countless possibilities, dreams, memories and moments that should have been waiting for him.
The suddenness of his death makes this loss especially difficult to comprehend. One moment, a family has a loved one with them, and the next, they are forced to face the painful reality that he will not be coming home.
According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the crash occurred at approximately 10 a.m. Sunday on Bibb County Road 24, about two miles east of West Blocton in Bibb County.
Authorities reported that Brett was driving a 2010 Toyota Tundra when the vehicle left the roadway, struck several trees and overturned. Brett was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
While those details help explain what happened, an accident report can never truly tell the story of the person behind the name.
Brett was more than a victim of a tragic crash. He was a son, a family member, a friend and a person whose life mattered deeply to those who knew him.
For the people closest to Brett, his absence will be felt in countless ways. There will be familiar places that remind them of him, photographs that bring back memories, stories that will be told again and again, and quiet moments when the reality of his absence becomes especially painful.
Losing someone at such a young age is a reminder of how fragile life can be. Twenty-eight years is far too short, and Brett’s loved ones are now left grieving not only the life he lived but also the many years they had hoped to share with him.
There were undoubtedly more memories to make, more birthdays to celebrate, more conversations to have, more family gatherings to attend and more ordinary moments that would have become cherished memories over time.
Now, those who loved Brett must carry his memory forward.
The photographs and stories left behind will become treasured reminders of his life. Every memory shared by someone who knew him is another piece of his story that will continue to live on.
For his family, the days ahead may be incredibly difficult. Grief does not follow a schedule, and the pain of losing someone so unexpectedly can take time to process. We hope they are surrounded by people who will offer comfort, patience, love and support as they navigate this heartbreaking loss.
To Brett’s friends, we hope you remember the moments that made you smile, the conversations you shared, the experiences you had together and the memories that made his friendship meaningful.
And to everyone who knew Brett, may you continue to speak his name and remember the person he was rather than allowing the circumstances of his passing to define his life.
His life was more than the tragic accident that took him from this world.
Brett M. Whitley was loved. Brett mattered. Brett will be remembered.
Although his time on earth ended far too soon, the impact he had on the people around him will remain. The love his family and friends have for him does not end with his passing.
As the Maylene community mourns, we extend our deepest thoughts and prayers to Brett’s family, friends and everyone grieving this heartbreaking loss.
May they find strength in one another. May they find comfort in the memories they shared with Brett. And may they find peace in knowing that his life touched people who will never forget him.
🕊️ Rest peacefully, Brett M. Whitley.
You were taken from this world far too soon, but your memory will continue to live in the hearts of those who loved you.
May you never be forgotten.
Gone too soon. Forever remembered. Forever missed.
Please keep Brett’s family, friends and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
