INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA — With profound sadness, we remember 58-year-old Jeffrey Cox, an Indianapolis man whose life was tragically cut short after he went missing while boating at Lake Monroe on Sunday afternoon. According to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Indiana conservation officers responded to Lake Monroe shortly before 4 p.m. on August 16 after receiving a report of an unconscious person who had been pulled from the water. Lake Monroe is located approximately 10 miles southeast of Bloomington.
Authorities said Jeffrey was boating with a group when he went missing while the boat was anchored. Those with him searched for approximately five to 10 minutes before he was located unresponsive in the water near the boat.
The DNR reported that Jeffrey was not wearing a life vest at the time.
Emergency medical personnel immediately began lifesaving efforts at the scene, desperately working to revive him. Despite those efforts, Jeffrey was pronounced dead at approximately 5 p.m.
